When there is “view”, “ridge” or “peak” in a trail name, you know I can’t pass it up. So today, we followed Meadow View to Bergen Peak. Bergen Peak was exactly what you would expect; switchbacks and inclines. The trail gets pretty narrow so we were lucky to only pass a few fellow hikers. If you follow Meadow View the entire way, the trail stays nice and wide.
There is almost 15 miles worth of trail in Elk Meadow Park. The trails range from easy (Sleepy S) to difficult (Bergen Peak). Whatever your abilities are, this is a pretty good spot to check out. Sleepy S stays out in the open and there isn’t much shade. Meadow View pops in out of the trees. Bergen Peak is very shaded with the help of all the evergreens. As we inclined, there was more snow. I didn’t see a need to put on any spikes though. Most of it was just powder.
Since it’s name is Elk Meadow, we did have the pleasure of running into an elk. Mozzy made sure to let me know he was around. We saw him up on the incline among the trees. They blend in really well the tree bark. I stopped and looked only because Mozzy was acting extra weird. Sure enough, there he was. I couldn’t imagine what would have happened if either Ohso or Mozzy was off-leash.
There are a lot of signs at the trail head that say, “Love Um, Leash Um”. Today, I did love them. So I leashed them.
